IEP Worskshop for Parents
This free interactive workshop is intended to inform parents about an IEP, which is both a plan and a process. An IEP is a written document that outlines in detail a child’s special education plan, including instructional needs, measurable goals and short term objectives. The process is ongoing information sharing between family members and the school district to ensure that the child’s developmental and educational needs are being met.
Monique Dujue Wilson, from the Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN), will review the components of an Individualized Educational Plan. Participants are encouraged to bring their child’s IEP document to the workshop. After the session, parents will have a better understanding of IEPs, be able to participate effectively in IEP meetings, and know how to address issues in a positive and proactive manner.
SPAN is a nonprofit organization committed to empowering families as advocates and partners in improving education and health outcomes for infants, toddlers, children and youth. The organization offers families and professionals information, resources, support and advocacy assistance.
